Wes Lee explores ancestral, deep, and sensual bass and percussion-driven electronic music, unapologetically representing the motherland. After 20 years of shaping the contemporary Dutch hip-hop and dancehall landscape under the infamous alias ‘WaxFiend’, Wesley Texel (founder of Encore, Jamrock, Tribes, and Ziongate, and booker at Paradiso and Parallel) adopted a new moniker: ‘Wes Lee’, to extend and re-emphasise his ongoing efforts to champion electronic dance music from Africa and her diaspora in the Netherlands. He finds magic in the liminal space between synthetic and organic, brutal and sensual, ancestral yet futuristic sound from the continent where humanity first set foot on Earth — a love that is both spiritual in nature and purposeful in ambition.
